Let's start at the beginning, don't you think?

A solid project must be based on strong foundations.
VISION AND MISSION
Each educational centre in The Gambia is characterized by having a mission and a vision.
Basori Playing School keeps the tradition and tries to reflect its life purpose. Why and for what this school was built with so much effort from the volunteers, beneficiaries and players in the tournaments.

A short and inspiring speech that summarizes the essence of PLAYING and for this it has been reflected in the main entrance of the school compound.
"We are a big family of professionals proud
to belong to this great project"
Batuwo Fatty, PLAYING Gambia Coordinator
LOCAL STAFF
Discover who is part of the team in The Gambia.

At PLAYING we are committed to qualified local staff to manage the educational project in Basori.
We work to develop international development cooperation educational projects seeking the local empowerment.
Thus, from teaching to supervision is done trusting in local profiles to allow continuity to the project and manage it from a appropriate vision to their reality.
"We arrived to Basori in 2017 on a tuesday at 11 in the morning.
We were surrounded by kids who were supposed to be in school."
Eduardo Romero, PLAYING Spain Directive Board
STUDENTS
All the students live in Basori and have been carefully selected by the community in a equitable manner with a geographic and gender focus to ensure equal opportunities.

The selection criteria, the creation of the school's uniform, information about the enrolment and the educational monitoring are some of the sections you can discover here.
CLASSROOMS AND MATERIALS
The classrooms are the temple in which every day the students acquire new competences for their future.

At Basori Playing School the best of european design meets local tradition and functionality.

Materials, furniture, decoration... You can read everything in this section.

How is all this done?
"You realize that children are children no matter what country you are in."
Belén Poza, Education team Volunteer.
ACADEMIC CURRICULUM
Building a school was already an important challenge, but the creation of an educational program 4.000 km away was a major one.

As always, keeping the balance between our philosophy and local traditions, we created an academic curriculum for pre-school and later another one for primary school.

In addition, we all designed a code of conduct consistent with our values as
educational centre.

Everything is reflected in the CEP (Centre's Educational Project) and the rest of documents you can discover if you access the section.
"When you are out of your daily 10 km2, you realize that
you need to learn to have a broader view"
Álvaro Martín, Education team Volunteer
FEEDING PROGRAM

The wellbeing of the children and the sustainability of the project can be considered as our main
concerns for which we try to constantly improve.

Thus, we have an ambitious but promising project at hands. In a plot as big as a running track
and that has the most fertile ground that we know of, why not creating a feeding program so that
the students can have a daily food ration? Discover here how we manage it.
SUMMER SCHOOL
Back to its origins in 2018, it was created with the aim to be a School Initiation Program.
Our beloved S.I.P. (P.I.E. in spanish).

A beautiful way of cooperation between the local community and the volunteers of PLAYING through which getting to know each other in depth.
Through an immersion in their culture and games, the children that so far had had a day by day very different without schedules, little by little begin to get used to what it is like to go to school.
"Small details make the difference"
Ramiro Pérez, Education team Volunteer
COMMUNITY APPROACH

The centre and the educational program, like the project as a whole, have a strong bond with the Community of Basori.

The governance body and the monitoring committee are made up entirely of Basori residents, schools workers and parents of the students.

Here you can find out what this groups consist of, the importance they have and the specific mission of each one of them.
